MitID
MitID — Your Digital Identity
MitID replaced NemID in 2023 as Denmark's mandatory digital identity. You need it for banking, tax filing, healthcare portals, and Digital Post. Without MitID, you are effectively locked out of all digital services in Denmark.

- Visit Borgerservice with your passport and activation letter to complete identity verification
- Download the MitID app on your phone
- Complete the first login to activate your digital identity

Digital Post — Mandatory Inbox
All Danish residents must receive official government mail through Digital Post (e-Boks or Mit.dk). Tax letters, hospital appointments, pension statements, and legal notices are sent here — not by physical mail. Failure to read Digital Post is not a legal excuse for missing deadlines.

- Check Digital Post weekly at minimum
- Apply for exemption at Borgerservice only if you genuinely cannot use digital services

Free Legal Aid & Ombudsman
Denmark provides free legal advice through Retshjælpen (legal aid centres) for anyone with an income below DKK 371,000/year (single). The Ombudsmanden investigates complaints against public authorities. Advokatvagten offers free 15-minute lawyer consultations in most cities.
